It was almost 30 years ago, my grandmother at the time was living in a provincially managed nursing home. She struggled with fear and dementia. I would visit her daily and would find her crying upon arrival. She would beg me to take her from the nursing home, telling me that terrible things were happening to her during the night hours. At the time, I was in my early 20's and would do everything in my power to help alleviate her fears, assuring her that nothing was happening to her.
With the knowledge I have today, I now regret not being more proactive in asking questions of the care staff and management of the nursing home. Today my mother-in-law suffers from Alzheimer’s. She too is in a nursing home. The care is excellent, and I have no reason to believe that she is not in the best of care. I realize how vulnerable our elderly community is. At Plan to Protect® we are committed to raising the bar on the protection of vulnerable adults and prevent harm from happening to them. Our policies and training have been modified to include vulnerable adults.
In the process, this has given us a great reason to change our name, our logo and our website. We hope you like it!
