Course Description

We need vulnerable sector protection policies – where do we start? How can we create safe places for children, youth, vulnerable adults and volunteers/staff? What does a strong recruitment and screening process look like? Why is abuse prevention important? Let’s Plan to Protect®!

This course is designed for administrators and leaders of organizations that work with or serve the vulnerable sector. We will address Plan to Protect® 101, Reporting and Response, Recruitment and Screening, Documentation Management and Customizing Policies. Through readings, video instruction and course assignments, participants will learn how to administer, implement, and maintain a strong abuse prevention program. Participants will receive downloadable resources, a Policy Draft, feedback and support. Let’s raise the bar on protection!

 

Level 2

Course Description

Are we doing everything we can to create a safe environment for children, youth and vulnerable adults? Are we protecting our volunteers and staff from false allegations? You have gone through the Administrator/Leader Course, now it is time to get recertified! Let’s Plan to Protect®!

This course is designed for administrators and leaders of organizations who work with or serve the vulnerable sector to become re-certified. We will address The Standard of Protection, Volunteer and Staff Engagement and Reviews, and Policy Audits/Gap Analysis. Through readings, video instruction and course assignments, participants will learn how to: assess and evaluate where they are, perform volunteer and staff reviews, and carry out the Abuse Prevention Program update to strengthen any areas of weakness. Participants will receive downloadable resources (such as sample policies/procedures), feedback and support. Let’s raise the bar on protection!

 

Level 3 – Evergreen

Course Description

Admin/Leader Evergreen is an independent self-study, guided by a coach from our Safeguarding Policy Team on one of the following options:
  • Plan to Protect® Seal of Excellence Application ($500 fee waived)
  • Policy Audit with coaching
  • Customized project designed by the student in consultation with Plan to Protect®
The Plan to Protect® Seal of Excellence Application option is available to the Plan to Protect® Administrator who scored over 75% in each category on the online assessment. There are 12 stages or components to the application process and a panel of judges (both internal and external to Plan to Protect®) will be looking for evidence to support your answers. For the Admin/Leader Evergreen course, you only have to complete the submission (the Seal questionnaires), not necessarily be awarded the Seal. However, if you are awarded the Seal, you can display the Seal logo, your organization would be highlighted in an upcoming PROTECT magazine, and you would win one year of Going the Distance membership valued at over $5,000.

A Policy Audit, similar to a financial audit, provides a fantastic learning experience. The Plan to Protect® Administrator, striving to achieve recertification, leads a team and is responsible for submitting the homework assignments. We recommend conducting policy audits in a team setting. We encourage you to include individuals who are not directly involved in programs, activities, or screening, as this audit assesses their compliance with policies and procedures. Developing policies is one of the first steps in establishing a safety protocol. The next crucial phase is ensuring that those policies are being followed and consistently applied across your team. That’s where a Policy Audit can make all the difference.
