Frequently Asked Questions
How do we know if membership is right for our organization?
If your organization serves children, youth, adults at risk, or relies on staff and volunteers to
provide programs and services, membership can help strengthen your safeguarding practices.
Whether you are building a program from the ground up or enhancing existing measures,
membership provides resources and support to help you protect the people entrusted to your care.
All individuals placed in a position of trust should be screened. Adhere to ratios for supervision, and any exception to two unrelated screened, adult workers in the activity room would be cause to have the door open with a hall monitor acting as the second overseer.
You can use other people connected to your community in the activity room. We would not encourage you to have them be alone in an activity room unless they are over 16 years of age. Even then the door should be left open and there should be a hall monitor.
How does membership help our organization stay current with best practices?
Safeguarding standards, legal requirements, and emerging risks continue to evolve. Membership
helps organizations stay informed through regular updates, newsletters, resource releases, and
access to current best practices in abuse prevention and safeguarding. This allows leaders to
proactively strengthen their policies and procedures rather than reacting to issues after they arise.
What if we are not able to meet all of the Plan to Protect® standards?
Membership is designed to help organizations grow, not to exclude them. We recognize that
every organization is at a different stage in its safeguarding journey. Our role is to provide
guidance (we are consultants, not compliance officers), tools, and support to help you identify
gaps, prioritize improvements, and move toward best practices at a pace that is realistic for your
organization.
Do we need membership to use your services?
No, thousands of organizations use our services based on their needs and budget. Members receive many benefits, including the relationship and support they receive from their Account Manager to help them with implementation.
What kind of support is available to members?
Members have access to consultation and guidance from the Plan to Protect® team on
safeguarding-related questions, policy implementation, risk management, screening practices,
training, and responding to concerns. Our goal is to provide practical support that helps
organizations confidently build and maintain safer environments.
How much work is involved in maintaining our membership?
Membership is designed to support organizations, not create additional administrative burden.
Members can access resources as needed and implement recommendations at a pace that fits
their organization. The Plan to Protect® team provides tools, templates, and guidance to make
safeguarding more manageable and sustainable for leaders.
