Frequently Asked Questions
What training do we need to get started?
If you’re just beginning, we recommend our Certification training to support leaders responsible for safeguarding oversight and implementation. Your frontline workers will need our initial Orientation training followed by annual Refresher training. These courses provide the foundational knowledge staff and volunteers need to recognize, prevent, and respond to abuse.
Who should take Orientation & Refresher training?
Orientation & Refresher training is designed for new staff, volunteers, and returning team members who need a shared foundation in safeguarding.
It helps your organization build a common understanding of abuse prevention, safe interactions, reporting responsibilities, and policy expectations. The training we provide meets insurance requirements to qualify for abuse coverage.
What is the difference between Orientation and Certification training?
Orientation & Refresher training gives staff and volunteers the foundational training they need to recognize risk, prevent abuse, understand their duty to report, and respond appropriately.
Our Certification courses are for organizations that want to build stronger internal safeguarding leadership. Our Administrator / Leader Certification training covers the administrative and oversight professional development needed to implement and maintain safeguarding within your organization. Our Train the Trainer Certification course equips you with the tools and training to train others. Our Crisis Response and Management Certification course equips leaders and crisis readiness.
How is training delivered?
Can we train our whole team at once, and can it be customized for our organization?
Yes. Many organizations choose private group training so their staff and volunteers can be trained together in a way that reflects their own policies, programs, and risk context.
This approach helps build consistency across your team and makes the training more practical and relevant to your day-to-day ministry or organization.
Do we need training if we already have policies?
Yes. Policies are essential, but they are only effective when people understand how to apply them.
Training ensures your organization shares a common language and approach to safeguarding. It helps staff and volunteers recognize risk, follow procedures consistently, and respond appropriately in real situations. Along with policies and procedures, training is a requirement of insurance companies to qualify for abuse coverage.
How often should training be completed?
Insurance companies require that volunteers and staff receive initial orientation training and annual refresher training to keep safeguarding knowledge current and reinforce best practices.
Certification training requires recertification every three years so leaders stay current with updated resources, evolving standards, risks, and responsibilities.
