Our Story

Plan to Protect® began in 1996 to help organizations serving the vulnerable meet their duty of care—starting with a simple manual and a clear mission: prevent abuse and create safer environments for children, youth, adults, and other vulnerable adults.

Over time, that manual grew into a recognized standard for abuse prevention and vulnerable sector protection across North America. We’ve worked alongside thousands of organizations—from schools and camps to churches, charities, municipalities, and retirement residences—to strengthen policies, train leaders, and embed safer day-to-day practices.

Today, we bring that standard to life through customized policies, screening support, training and certification, consulting, and membership resources—helping organizations reduce risk, build confidence, and protect the people they serve.

Plan to Protect® brings together policy, training, screening, and ongoing support in one structured approach to safeguarding. We safeguard against all forms of injury, harm and abuse against all age groups. Our work is informed by deep experience in protection, investigations, and expert witness practice, including leadership that helped shape the original Plan to Protect® standard. We have a strong advisory council that we consult with with expertise in different disciplines.
